The 250GT series forms the backbone of Ferrari’s success as a producer of the world’s most sought-after Granturismo automobiles. The competition models- mythical names like the 250GT Tour de France, 250GT SWB and 250GTO- are revered by enthusiasts and fiercely contested by top collectors. The road cars, sharing the same mechanical architecture but with greater emphasis on suitability for road use, quality of finish and elegance of style, are perhaps best epitomized by the 250GT Lusso, considered by many to be the most beautiful Ferrari ever made.

It came at a time when Ferrari, like most automobile manufacturers, realized that the time had come to separate road and racing models. Gone was the era when a gentleman could drive to the track, compete successfully in the same car and drive home. The new breed of purpose-built racing coupes like the 250GTO was no longer suitable for road use, so Ferrari GTs took two separate paths, and the Lusso was the other one.

This example of the Lusso (which translates as ‘luxury’), one of 350 built, was supplied new to Italy finished in a beautiful and rare colour scheme: 'Celeste 19321 M It.' (light blue) with 'Pelle Nuvola VM 3015' (cloud leather) upholstery. It has spent over a decade in one of Italy’s top three car collections and has seen very little use. ASI certified (the Italian Classic Car authority) and Italian registered, it offers good potential for future appreciation and enjoyment. A Ferrari 250GT Lusso, especially in a colour scheme which highlights the elegance of Pininfarina’s timeless design, is never out of place whether on a concours lawn or a fine private garage.
