This handsome Mercedes-Benz 220SE cabriolet, one of 2,729 built between September 1961 and October 1965, must surely be one of the finest examples to survive. It has undergone total restoration, 2003-2011, by the most skilled firms in Italy on behalf of its current fastidious and demanding collector owner. Luigino Tommasin of Quality Cars stripped the bodywork to bare metal and repainted it. The interior has been completely retrimmed to the highest standard by Ferraresi. The electrical system has been rewired by specialist Rodighiero. This work totalled approximately €70,000. Corrado Patella (Autofficina Omega) was responsible for the mechanics, including the suspension, injection etc, at a further cost of circa €60,000. These are all firms known as amongst the best in their fields. A photographic record attests to the depth and quality of the work, and it will not surprise anyone that to repeat it would cost more than the price of the car- not to mention the years which this restoration required. We have not previously handled this model but when confronted with this example we were only too happy to oblige. It’s a luxurious, stylish and useable classic which the entire family can enjoy throughout the year.
