The Tipo 33 signalled Alfa’s return to top level sports car racing and it’s the sleekest competition car ever to emerge from their Autodelta competition department, replacing the lovely but ageing TZ2. This Tipo 33/2 (the ‘2’ suffix tells you it’s the developed version which entered service for the 1968 season whilst the ‘Daytona’ moniker is in honour of this particular model’s victory at the Floridian track) has a distinctive chassis number- ‘007’- and although Autodelta’s chassis-by-chassis race records were a shambles, it’s known to be the car which contested the ’68 and possibly '69 Monza 1000Km classics with the VDS Team. After several years with Alfisti Chris Mann in the UK and Bill Clarke in New Zealand, it returned to Europe for restoration by Paul Lanzante and has spent the past 14 years in private ownership. If you’re looking for the ultimate ride for next year’s Goodwood Festival, Le Mans Classique or even the Tour Auto, you might be lucky: it’s even road registered, although ear plugs are advised.
