1968 Alfa Romeo Tipo 33/2
Ex-Autodelta team/ Aldo Bardelli
1968 Alfa Romeo Tipo 33/2 Targa Florio Spyder
Chassis no. 750.33.014

  • Superb looking 1960s sports-prototype
  • Extensive and successful international and Italian racing history, including 3rd at '68 Targa Florio and 7th at Daytona
  • Largely untouched since its last race

Originally bodied as a classic 'Daytona' coupe for the Autodelta works team, chassis '014' was one of the most successful Tipo 33 chassis, placing 3rd overall at the eponymous Florida enduro and 3rd at the gruelling Targa Florio. Into 1969 the car was sold to Tuscan privateer Aldo Bardelli, hailing from the same town as Autodelta boss Carlo Chiti and already successful with a TZ1 and prototype 2 litre TZ2 (specially built for him on Chiti's orders). Autodelta modified the Tipo 33 to open spyder configuration as permitted by the latest rules, and in this guise Bardelli raced it extensively throughout Italy during 1969-1971. Shortly afterwards Bardelli sold both the TZ2 and his Tipo 33/2 to pioneering Italian collector Giulio Dubbini; he in turn sold them as a pair in the late 1970s to Peter Kaus for his Rosso Bianco museum, which included the world's most comprehensive line-up of Tipo 33 Alfas (nine, to be precise). Our team handled the TZ2 for Kaus in the early-'2000s, but the Tipo 33 remained as part of the collection when it was sold as a whole in 2006.

Kidston SA are delighted to have now helped return this unique Tipo 33/2 to Tuscany, where its enthusiastic new owner- who admired it racing and was photographed with it as a 14 year old- invited Aldo Bardelli to be present when it arrived home. Signor Bardelli commented: "The seat and rear mirror are still in the same positions as when I last drove it!" Expect to see and hear the car again in 2010...
